"Academic Information"

The Lighthouse Children's Home operates the Lighthouse Christian Academy, which uses the A.C.E. (Accelerated Christian Education) School of Tomorrow curriculum. In 2002 our school was elevated to Model Status with A.C.E., and maintains that status today.

Academic Standards and Goals
All girls that enter the Lighthouse are tested to see what their level is in all core subjects. The A.C.E. curriculum allows girls to work at their own level and pace, which is essential if a girl is trying to catch-up. All girls are required to complete a specified amount of work and take specified courses according to their testing and their academic goals. We also require a minimum score of 80% on any work to pass. If a girl responds well to the A.C.E. program, she will be considered for model status; this allows her to work beyond her correct grade level, which may result in early graduation. We make no guarantees as to any girl’s success because she is the one that must do the work. However, once a girl has been tested our academic goals include:

·         Helping the girl attain her true grade level

·         Helping the girl raise her grade point average (G.P.A.)

·         Helping the girl complete the required amount of credits for graduation

·         Helping the girl prepare for college entrance testing and for college itself

We do achievement testing (C.A.T.) and Juniors and Seniors are taken for their college entrance testing (A.C.T. or S.A.T.).

Acceptance and Transfer of Credits
The Lighthouse Christian Academy accepts the transfer of most other school’s credits and the credits a girl earns here are also accepted by most public and private schools. We have had many students graduate from the Lighthouse and go on to college.
